HISTORY & GENIOLOGY TRACE
We as the Khadims of Huzoor Gharib Nawaz & Gaddi Nashin of Dargah Sharif are famously known as "Syedzadgan." We can trace our descent from Hazrat Khwaja Sayyid Fakhruddin Gardezi (R.A.) through his son, Khwaja Sayyid Masood, and then through Khwaja Sayyid Mahboob Bahlol and Khwaja Sayyid Ibrahim. The lineage of ours's is deeply rooted in history, and we continue to perform our Religious duties, just as our ancestors did in the past. We diligently serve the sacred Mazar-Pak (Shrine) and also pray on behalf of those who cannot come to Ajmer but have faith in Gharib Nawaz and seek his blessings.
We have the rights to serve the Shrine as our ancestors served Khwaja Gharib Nawaz, perform religious rituals, and arrange spiritual functions, as well as receive various offerings (Nazar), have been passed down as a hereditary legacy and we have been legally acknowledged. Documentary evidence supporting our lineage can be found in the "Malfoozat" (Sayings) of the Chishty order, historical literature, Shahi Faramin (Imperial Orders), Sanads (Certificates), and Jagirs (Land Grants), along with honors and rewards bestowed upon us by Muslim rulers as well as numerous Hindu Rajas and Chieftains of India, along with recognition from the British Government during their successive regimes, have bestowed authority upon us, signifying as the true custodians of the Shrine. The entire management and control of all affairs within the sacred premises of the Shrine (Gumbad Mubarak) exclusively rest in our capable hands. Despite facing numerous revolutions and changes of government, We have remained steadfastly attached to the Shrine, diligently fulfilling their traditional duties and services even amidst the most challenging political upheavals.
When Hazrat Khwaja Syed Moinuddin Chishty journeyed to India, his spiritual mentor, Hazrat Khwaja Usman Haruni, instructed him to bring along one of his blood relatives and followers, Hazrat Khwaja Fakhruddin Gurdezi (R.A.). As the devoted Khadim-e-khas, Hazrat Khwaja Fakhruddin Gurdezi served Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishty (R.A.) diligently day in and day out. Hence, We, the present Khadim community, consider it a privilege and an honor to be called "Khadim" of Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (R.A.).
Hazrat Syed Fakhruddin Gurdezi (R.A.) remained by the side of the great Khwaja until his final moments. Whenever Khwaja Saheb engaged himself in prayer, meditation, or seclusion for extended periods, Syed Fakhruddin looked after his affairs and efficiently managed the Khanqah and Langar Khana. After the "Wissal" (passing away) of Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (R.A.), Syed Fakhruddin Gurdezi (R.A.) continued his noble service in Ajmer until his passing in the year 642 A.H./1238, nearly a decade later. He was laid to rest near Mazar-e-Pak of Khwaja Saheb in the Hujra, now known as "Tosh-e-Khana." We the (Syedzadgan) commemorate his annual Urs on the 25th of Rajab with solemn religious ceremonies.
We exhibited remarkable loyalty and devotion to the shrine of Huzoor Gharib Nawaz during the communal riots of 1947. While the majority of the Muslim population fled to Pakistan to seek safety, We as a faithful Khadims, true to our tradition, fearlessly stayed behind despite the peril to our lives and property. We valiantly safeguarded the Dargah from pillage, plunder, and destruction, rendering invaluable service during those tumultuous times.
