The venerated Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) resided with his small group of followers on the serene bank of Ana Sagar Lake. The devotees of this Holy Saint, at times, drew water from the lake and occasionally indulged in fishing or, albeit rarely, the slaughter of animals to eat. These activities, however, stirred a sense of repulsion and violated the sentiments of the ruler, Raja Prithvi Raj Chauhan. The environs of Ana Sagar were adorned with numerous priests, and some priests voiced their grievances against these practices to the Raja. This led to an immediate order from Raja Prithvi Raj Chauhan, demanding the expulsion of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) and his followers from the Ana Sagar Hill and the Ajmer soil altogether.
Yet, the resolute Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) could not acquiesce to such demands, for he was bound by the instructions and commandments of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and the divine will of Almighty Allah. In the face of a violent onslaught orchestrated by the priests with the intention of murdering him, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) resorted to a miraculous act. He took a handful of dust in his hands and cast it upon the cruel Priests, forcing them to retreat, while some lost their senses, others their eyesight, and a few even fled in terror.
Alarmed and dismayed by this spectacle, Raja Prithvi Raj Chauhan took a further inhumane step against the Muslim Faqir and his followers. He acceded to the Priest's demands and ordered the cessation of water from Ana Sagar for Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) and his followers. Military forces were deployed on all sides of Ana Sagar, strictly enforcing the prohibition of water access to Muslims. The disciples of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) returned with empty jugs, recounting the ordeal to their revered saint.
Deeply distressed, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (ra) took matters into his own hands, grasping a Kooza (tumbler), and approached Ana Sagar. When a soldier obstructed him from taking water, Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti(HA) looked at him with his miraculous eyes. The soldier, unable to withstand the saint's piercing gaze, grew fearful, collapsed unconscious on the ground, and dropped his sword. Miraculously, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) drew and contained the entire water of Ajmer city, including Ana Sagar, within the Kooza (tumbler). All sources of water in the city inexplicably vanished, leaving even the milk in nursing mothers' and animals' breasts dried up.
This extraordinary occurrence left Prithvi Raj's supporters astounded. The miraculous display led to a transformative shift in public sentiments, and a considerable number of people embraced Islam under the guidance of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA). The opposition against him waned as a result of this unparalleled miracle. Criticism from the public mounted against Prithvi Raj Chauhan for the water's disappearance. Despite his best efforts and stratagems, the water could not be restored. Eventually, Raja Prithvi Raj Chauhan humbly approached Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA), expressing his regret and vowing not to ban the use of water for any being or creature, recognizing it as a gift from nature. He extended his apologies to the Saint, and the water supply was promptly restored to all.
One fine day, Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki (RA), the beloved Khalifa and spiritual successor of the illustrious Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA), was taking a leisurely stroll with King Shams-ud-din Iltutmish of Delhi, accompanied by the king's courtiers. Suddenly, their path was obstructed by an alluring woman who began wailing inconsolably. Inquisitive about the reason for her distress, the king inquired, and she claimed to be pregnant with Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki (ra)'s child, demanding marriage to him. This shocking accusation perturbed the king and his courtiers as they knew the Khalifa to be a pious man of unblemished integrity.
Overwhelmed by the woman's statement, the Khalifa turned his gaze towards Ajmer and sought the help of his Pir-o-Murshid, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA). Suddenly, the revered Saint appeared among the king and his courtiers, leaving them astounded, and they promptly paid their respects.
The Saint questioned his Khalifa about the reason for invoking him. The Khalifa, speechless, tears streaming down his face, could not respond. Then, the esteemed Khawaja Baba (HA) addressed the child in the womb and requested it to reveal the truth regarding the accusation. By the grace of God, the unborn child responded, refuting the woman's claim and affirming that her accusation against Khwaja Qutbuddin (ra) was false. It was evident that the enemies of Khwaja Qutbuddin (ra) concocted this malicious plot out of jealousy, seeking to tarnish his reputation.
The assembled witnesses stood astonished upon hearing the voice from the woman's womb. Unable to escape the truth, she openly admitted her guilt before the king and his courtiers. It is believed that an envious official (mufti) bore ill will towards Khwaja Qutbuddin (ra) due to his special favor with King Shams-ud-din Iltutmish, and thus, this wickedly devised scheme failed miserably.
The mother of Raja Prithvi Raj, the ruler of India at that time, prophesied that a Dervesh would one day arrive in his kingdom. She cautioned her son that if he mistreated that Dervesh, his kingdom would perish. Prithvi Raj was greatly astonished by her words. Twelve years after the prophecy, Prithvi Raj was informed that a Dervesh had indeed arrived in his kingdom, just as predicted by his mother.
Despite all his efforts, schemes, and tortures inflicted on Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA)i Raj was unable to subdue the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) or bring him under his control, as it was against the divine will. The Raja failed in his attempts to arrest or harm the Great Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz (HA). Even after such ill-treatment from Raja Prithvi Raj, the Great Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) extended invitations to him, directly and indirectly, to embrace Islam, but he consistently declined.
Prithvi Raj consulted with the temple priests and his trusted counselors, Ajai Pal and Shadi Dev. Ajai Pal had numerous followers well-versed in magic, black arts, witchcraft, and astrology.
The Raja instructed his most skilled magicians to eliminate and kill the Muslim Faqir along with his followers to protect their religion. He also recalled the prophetic words of his mother about the downfall of his kingdom. Guru Ajai Pal reassured the Raja, claiming that the Faqir was an imposter, and he would expel him from Ajmer, ensuring no such Muslims would dare to come again.
The next day, Ajai Pal and his disciples arrived at the location. Ajai Pal and Raja Prithvi Raj Chowhan, launched an attack on Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) who was unarmed. The Great Saint was engrossed in meditation and contemplation. When Hazrat Khwaja Baba's (HA) disciples informed him of the situation, he prepared to repel their attacks.
He drew a protective circle on the ground around him and his followers. Ajai Pal initially launched several Chakras into the air through a whirlwind. These Chakras were meant to cut anything they touched into pieces. However, they failed to harm the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) or his followers. Instead, the whirling Chakras returned to Ajai Pal and his disciples. Their magic proved futile, and Ajai Pal's first attempt failed.
Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz (HA) instructed his followers not to leave the marked circle around them. Anything magical or material that approached the circle would fall outside its boundaries.
Undeterred, Ajai Pal made a second attack, unleashing venomous snakes, scorpions, and other poisonous creatures towards the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) and his companions. However, as soon as these creatures approached the protective circle, they perished. Ajai Pal's dreadful attack also failed, intensifying his fury.
In a final attempt, Ajai Pal summoned a storm cyclone with fire, water, and stones. However, the cyclone turned back and caused chaos among Ajai Pal's followers. These failed attacks were closely observed by the public, prompting them to consider which side was blessed by Allah.
Faced with a desperate situation, Raja Prithvi Raj threatened Ajai Pal with severe consequences if he did not protect the kingdom's honor and religion. Ajai Pal sought to regain his lost prestige and honor.
Ajai Pal flew into the sky, and disappeared within moments. The followers of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) patiently observed each feat. One of them, unable to tolerate Ajai Pal's tricks, urged the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) to intervene. The Great Saint smiled and ordered his Nalain (wooden Sandals that Muslim faqirs wear like chappals) to bring Ajai Pal down to the ground. The Nalain obediently flew into the air and swiftly brought the flying magician back to the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) by striking Ajai Pal's head continuously. Shocked by the power of the Holy Saint's sandals, Ajai Pal surrendered himself to the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) after his final attack failed. He now lay at the mercy of the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA), awaiting his orders. The Great Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) then asked him to embrace Islam and accepted his apology. Ajai Pal immediately embraced Islam and became a devoted disciple. The Great Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) bestowed the name Abdullah Bayabani upon him.
Upon ascending to the Indian throne, Emperor Alamgir, the Mughal ruler, promptly undertook a pilgrimage to pay homage to the Holy Saint, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hassan Chishty (HA) at Ajmer. His customary practice was to greet the resting place of the Great Saint with the words "Assalamu Alaikum." If a response came from the designated grave, he considered it the true and authentic resting place of the Saint. Otherwise, he would order the shrine to be demolished.
As he approached the Holy Shrine of Sultanul Hind, Ata-e-Rasool, Emperor Alamgir, in his usual manner, reverently addressed the grave with "Assalato-Wassalamu Alaika Ya Hindul Wali Ata-e-Rasool Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA)." However, there was no immediate reply. He repeated his salutation after a few moments, yet once again, there was no response from the Holy Saint's grave. The Emperor stated that if his salutations were not acknowledged one more time, he would proceed with the demolition of the shrine.
After a moment of pause, a response emanated from the Mazar Sharif of Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (HA). The Holy Saint conveyed, "Walaikum Assalam Ya Alamgir Hujjati; Is a reply essential when a Saint is engrossed in prayer with divine Allah?" The peace of Allah be upon you, Ya Alamgir. Stunned by this profound reply, Emperor Alamgir humbly bowed down, seeking mercy and forgiveness. He offered Fateha and realized his mistake.
Being a true devotee of the Holy Saint, Emperor Alamgir constructed a Mosque near the Dargah Sharif of Huzoor Khwaja Garib Nawaz (HA), which is now renowned as the Alamgiri Mosque.
One day, while seated by the tranquil waters of the Ana Sagar lake in Ajmer, the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) observed a cowherd boy herding a group of young cows. Curiously, the Saint requested some milk from the boy. The humble cowherd replied that the young cows were still immature and unable to yield any milk.
Undeterred, the Great Saint smiled and pointed to a specific young cow, instructing the boy to attempt milking it. Though hesitant, the boy followed the Saint's guidance and to his astonishment, found the cow's teats fully developed, brimming with milk. He proceeded to milk the cow, and the miraculous yield was more than sufficient to nourish about forty people.
Overwhelmed by the profound presence of the holy Saint and the wondrous miracle he had just witnessed, the young lad became a fervent and devoted follower of the Great Khwaja Moinuddin.
It has been reported that the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) performed two Hajj pilgrimages to Mecca before his arrival in India. What truly astounded and left many in awe were the eye-witness accounts in Mecca each year, where people reported seeing the Great Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) partaking in the Hajj rituals, while simultaneously, others witnessed his presence in Ajmer. This phenomenon remains inexplicable as it defies the ordinary limitations of being present at two places simultaneously, which is an impossibility for ordinary individuals.
One day the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) was giving a discourse. The audience noticed that whenever he glanced towards his right, he stood up for a while and then resumed his lecture. This occurred many times. After the lecture, some devotee asked him about this, and he replied by saying that that the tomb of his Pir-O-Murshid was on that side, and whenever he looked that side the tomb came before his eyes, so he stood up to pay his respects.
An elderly woman, with tears streaming down her face, approached the saint while he was engaged in his prayers. She shared her heart-wrenching tale of how the governor unjustly took the life of her son. She implored the venerable Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) for justice. In response, the saint took his walking stick and requested the woman to lead him to the place where her son's lifeless body lay. His devoted followers accompanied him on this solemn journey.
Upon reaching the scene, he gently placed the severed head back in its rightful position on the lifeless body. With deep devotion, he beseeched the Almighty to revive the departed soul if the young man was truly innocent. Miraculously, the young man arose, restored to full health, and in a moment of overwhelming gratitude, both he and his elderly mother prostrated themselves at the feet of the revered saint of Ajmer.
As the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) strolled through the alleys of Ajmer alongside his attendant, Sheikh Ali, a creditor of Sheikh Ali approached them with arrogance, demanding the repayment of his debt. Being aware of human nature, Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) assured the creditor that his money would be returned soon. However, the obstinate creditor was not satisfied. Filled with divine inspiration, the Saint cast aside his cloak onto the ground, and astonishingly, it transformed into a pile of gold and silver coins. He instructed the creditor to take what was rightfully due to him.
The greedy creditor, driven by his base desires, sought to seize more than his rightful share by extending his hands beyond the legitimate amount. Instantaneously, the miraculous heap vanished, and his arm became paralyzed. Overwhelmed by guilt, the creditor humbly prostrated himself before the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA), seeking mercy. Through his boundless compassion, Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) restored the creditor's hand to its original state, providing him with an opportunity for redemption.
It is said that although the Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) led a life of great simplicity, subsisting mainly on frugal fare like dry bread soaked in water, his cook would prepare abundant quantities of food to distribute among the people of Ajmer. Each morning, the cook would seek his master's presence to obtain funds for the day's provisions. In response, the noble Saint would gently lift a corner of his musalla (prayer mat) and instruct the cook to take only the necessary amount of money for that day's expenses and nothing more.
One day, a devoted Mureed (disciple) of the esteemed Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) approached him with a grievance, narrating how the Governor had subjected him to unceasing harassment and eventually exiled him from the city. The Great Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti (HA) consoled his Mureed, instructing him to return home, as the Governor had already received divine retribution. Astonishingly, upon reaching his abode, the Mureed learned of the Governor's demise, resulting from a fatal fall while hunting.
